Our Story
The Legacy of Todd M. Beamer
The Flight 93 Beamer Foundation was founded in memory of Todd Beamer, the husband of Lisa Brosious Beamer, a former First Baptist Church of Peekskill, NY member. Lisa is the daughter of Lorraine Brosious, who in addition to being a member of FBC, was a Biblical Counselor at the church for many years.
Todd and Lisa became national heroes on September 11, 2001. Todd in his last words on Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania, said “Are you ready? Let’s roll!” Todd, alongside other brave individuals overtook the terrorists, breaking into the cockpit, keeping the plane from its intended target - either the White House or the Capital Building in Washington DC.
Lisa inspired the nation on multiple national news shows with her story of faith and encouraged everyone to not be overwhelmed with fear. In addition to encouraging us to not be afraid of flying by getting on the flight her husband was killed on days before, she was singled out by the President, who invited her to attend his State of the Union address and was given a standing ovation by Congress.
“What made Todd different from many other men who are merely religious was not the fact that he was willing to die for his faith; the terrorists did that! No, Todd was willing to live for his faith… Todd built his life on a firm foundation so that when the storm came on September 11, he didn’t have to check the blueprints to see if everything he had built his life on was going to stand. He knew.”
Joe and Karen Urbanowicz, FBC Peekskill members who had known the Brosious’ for many years, were directing youth outreach ministries in the Peekskill community, such as Good News Clubs at three schools, Soccer and Pizza Nights, Soccer Camps, Baseball and Softball Camps, Open Gym nights, 3 on 3 Basketball Tournaments, and 5 on 5 Soccer Tournaments.
They founded the Flight 93 Beamer Foundation with the hope of sustaining, providing funding for and expanding these youth outreach ministries in our community.
As these ministries grew, multiple volunteers and donors alongside the Urbanowicz’s had been praying about a full time director for the Flight 93 Beamer Foundation. In March of 2025, the Board hired Krystel Heady to take on this responsibility. The future of the Foundation is exciting as we look forward to what God will do with the outreach already taking place, and prayerfully consider new opportunities as well.
As we carry Todd’s legacy, we are convinced that young people need to be firmly planted in the same solid foundation that is the hope of Jesus Christ (Matthew 7:24-27). Like all of us, their greatest need is to be reconciled to God through faith in the life and death of Jesus as their full sin payment (2 Corinthians 5:18-20).
